We Want Peace with China
War breaks us. It detaches us from our core humanity. War removes us from ourselves and programs us to find enemies in anyone or anything that is unfamiliar. It robs us of our humanity and empathy. War poisons our hearts, minds, and spirits. It reduces us to cold shells — unfeeling, unloving — of ourselves first and then others, and back around. We can break that cycle though. The opposite of war is creation, nurturing, and healing. When we do our work to slow down, feel, and see ourselves in others, we can end wars. But we all have to do it. We all have to do the work to end wars.
— Letty Martinez
We do not want military conflict anywhere, as does almost everyone else in the world. We want peace with China, a long-time peace-loving country who isn’t a dangerous threat to anyone. The Chinese people have a very long history of non-aggression against other sovereign countries. China is not a country that invades, takes over and destroys another country’s culture, slaughters the population with horrible legal weaponry, and occupies the land as have the historically imperial European countries and our own United States.
China’s foreign policy is based upon “[M]utual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, mutual development, follows a mutually beneficial strategy of opening up, works to develop diplomatic relations and economic and cultural exchanges with other countries, and promotes the building of a human community with a shared future. China consistently opposes imperialism, hegemonism and colonialism, works to strengthen its solidarity with the people of other countries, supports oppressed peoples and developing countries in their just struggles to win and safe guard their independence and develop their economies, and strives to safeguard world peace and promote the cause of human progress.” Chinese Constitution.
The People’s Republic of China, with the hard work of the Chinese people and leadership of the Communist Party of China has become a safe, sane, successful and thriving country, and is becoming stronger and richer.
What does China want besides peace? China wants regional stability, internal stability, national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and economic and social development. It defends its borders, has no desire to expand its territory, and is not interested in replacing the US as the global dominant power and hegemony. It advocates multipolarity where all countries are equal and cooperate and share power versus one country being the dominant power.
What does the United States powers that be want? The United States is a warfare nation, the greatest purveyor of violence in the world, does not want peace with China. It wants to increase the hundreds of military bases close to China, threaten a war on China, and plans to overthrow China’s government. Pete Hegseth, the newest US Secretary of Defense, writes and says that the Chinese are a threat to the world, “are literally the villains of our generation … [and if we don’t defeat them] we will be standing for the Chinese national anthem someday.” He pledged that the US “will remain the strongest and most lethal force in the world,” and is committed to “making our military once again the most lethal badass force on the planet.”
We invite anyone who wants to work with others for peace with China to join the We Want Peace With China Committee. We meet via zoom on the first Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. If interested, contact connect.unify.84@gmail.com.
CHINA 101: SEEK TRUTH FROM FACTS!

The People’s Republic of China is home to one-fifth of the world’s population. It is about the size of the U.S., and has four times the population of the U.S.
Eighty percent of China is mountains and deserts, and only 12% of the land is food-producing. Thirty-five percent of the population live in rural areas. There are 200 million farming households, and close to two million registered cooperatives, including Agricultural Village Cooperatives. China is a remarkably ancient and diverse culture, with 56 different ethnic groups, eight dialects, many different spiritual beliefs and practices, and 23 provinces that each has its own unique culture. The country shares its borders with fifteen neighboring countries. China has a culture of thousands of years of trade, acceptance and mutual respect of different ethnic groups and religions with the bordering countries, and with the Middle East.
For thousands of years, peace culture has been the essence of Chinese traditional culture and the eternal pursuit of the Chinese nation. Chinese philosophical thought has been that the moral law is to respect human life, that peace is precious, and war is utterly evil, and you can only resort to war if it is unavoidable and have exhausted all peaceful means before one is allowed to use force. The culture neither celebrates nor glorifies war, and knows that a warlike state, however big it may be, will eventually perish. It is known that peace is necessary for a humane and just government, a government that cares for its people, protecting them with sufficient food and water, and preventing them from humiliation, cruelty and other kinds of suffering.
The People’s Republic of China has a socialist economic system, a government-guided “socialist market economy” that works well for the people – socialism with Chinese characteristics. Where the majority of capital is invested in is decided by elected public servants, from the local level of government, to the central government’s National People’s Congress. Representatives pledge to adhere to the role of governance whereby it uses its power to put the well-being of the population first. For example, when infrastructure is needed, capital is invested to build it. When more schools, or housing, or health care clinics are needed, capital is invested to build them. Nearly 80% of all large-scale enterprises are state-owned: defense, energy, telecoms, transportation systems, utilities, and aviation. Large banks, natural areas, public buildings and many factories are also state-owned. This public ownership represents one-half of the socialist economic system.
The other half is comprised of private small banks, regulated foreign businesses, and approximately 40 million private enterprises, where the vast majority are small, medium-sized and household enterprises.

SPREAD THE TRUTH ABOUT CHINA!
We can all TAKE ACTION NOW and have friendly conversations about what we know and feel about China.
The Western Media anti-China propaganda machine has been going on for a long time. But things are a-changing. The fictional story line about China is crumbling as the truth about China spreads. In 2019, nearly 70% of stories about China’s environment or economic technology were negative. In 2025, the share of negative stories have dropped to around 40%, with significant increases in neutral and positive coverage. It looks as if the anti-China propaganda is actually helping China because pedaling a fictional China in western minds is so obviously divorced from the real one that the lies aren’t working so well anymore. In fact, the western media is losing more and more credibility.
So, how do we champion the truth about China? Well, we speak and write the truth. We have friendly conversations about what we have seen if traveled to China, how we feel about China, our stories about how we have learned about China, how we don’t want the US to attack China, talk about all of China’s accomplishments, its 2,000 year history, the long history of China’s peaceful existence, and how it is working hard for a peaceful world, how the Chinese people have created a socialist system that works for them, how China demonstrates possibilities, how the Chinese want a multipolar world, instead of continuing domination of one country, how the Chinese people are very satisfied with their government, how China is a leader in virtually every aspect of the low-carbon transition, including investment, installation and manufacturing, how China is a very safe country, how women have been liberated, and more. And always repeat, more than once, that we want peace with China.
We can all be part of spreading the truth about China! TAKE ACTION and have friendly conversations about China.
UNDERSTANDING FOREIGN POLICIES
PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF CHINA’S FOREIGN POLICY
China rejects the Cold War mentality, unilateralism, group politics and bloc confrontation. China has one naval base on the Horn of Africa for the protection of strategic energy supply channels. It is the only military base in the world outside its border. China firmly upholds the international system with the United Nations at its core. “When hegemonic and bullying acts run unchecked, human civilization will revert to the law of the jungle. It is important that we firmly defend the international system with the United Nations its core, uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and rejects selective application.” (China Foreign Minister Wang Yi)
China has a long history of creating peace with practical actions. Recently it created the Belt and Road Initiative, BRI, with twenty-four neighboring countries. It created the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the Silk Road Fund to provide financial support for infrastructure. Today there is a general connectivity framework with six corridors, and six connectivity routes with multiple countries and ports put in place. They also work together in tackling challenges such as terrorism, separatism, and financial crisis in the region.
In 2009, BRIC was created with Brazil, Russia, India, and China for economic dialogue and cooperation. Between 2015 and 2023, BRICS’ New Development Bank invested $32 billion in projects for the Global South for sustainable development and collaborative initiatives. It is working with China for economic de-dollarization as an alternative to the Western neoliberal order. Many new member nations have since joined, and now make up 44% of the world’s GDP, and 56% of the global population.
UNITED STATES’ FOREIGN POLICY
The U.S. has over 700 military bases around the world, including hundreds close to China. It needs them to maintain world dominance and control. The current U.S. war hawks want a war on China and plan to attack soon.
The United States is a warfare nation and is the greatest purveyor of violence in the world. For more than a hundred years, U.S. foreign policy has been one of invasions that have slaughtered millions and millions of people, covert operations in China, specifically, Tibet, Xinjiang, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, bombings, including dropping two nuclear bombs on civilians, covert actions to overthrow sovereign nations (more than 50), interfered in democratic elections (at least 30 countries), attempted assassinations of foreign leaders (more than 50 foreign leaders), constant malicious propaganda campaigns all over the world, worked to suppress any and all populist or revolutionary movements fighting against intolerable regimes, including China (20 countries), carried out coups against democratically elected governments, and elections, if allowed, provided cover for authoritarian rule by giving the appearance of democracy while obscuring how power was actually exercised, and much more.
“They will always tell us the new war they want us to fight is about self-defense, or about liberating an oppressed population from a tyrannical dictatorship, or about preventing terrorism, or about spreading freedom and democracy. Usually they tell us it’s about all of these things. But it never is. They are always lying. Always. They are pushing human beings into the worse circumstances they could possibly experience here on earth for no other reason than power and profit. To advance the hegemonic agendas of empire managers and to fill the offers of war profiteers. That’s all it ever is. Always, always, always.” Caitlin Johnstone, 6/20/2025 https://mail.yahoo.com/n/search/keyword=caitlin%2520johnstone/messages/207327?.src=ym&reason=myc
The U.S. wants the island of Taiwan. It is 81 miles from mainland China. There is no question that it is part of China, and for years the U.S. accepted this and passed laws in support. But that changed, when the U.S. decided it wanted to take charge of the island, and put long-range ballistic missile systems targeting the most populated cities in China – like the Soviet Union tried in Cuba. The defeated dictator, Chiang Kai Shek, who fled to the island in 1949, convinced the U.S. to send $50 billion worth of weapons to him, and since then, billions have been spent for lethal weaponry pointed at the mainland. Today there are U.S. troops in Taiwan, and today and every day, the U.S. plays large-scale war games in the Taiwan straits. In July the U.S. and its allies began the largest military exercises in the Pacific since World War II.
CLOSE THE U.S. MILITARY BASES IN ASIA!
The People’s Republic of China is not threatening anyone. The Philippines, Guam, Japan, Korea, Indonesia and Australia do not need to defend themselves from China. Japan is the nation who has attacked, invaded and tried to conquer China many times. China has not invaded or bombed Korea or made threats against Korea. It did defend itself in Korea and sent troops to northern Korea in 1950 when U.S. troops in Korea advanced northward towards the Chinese border and General MacArthur wanted to drop nuclear bombs on China.
To maintain the American imperial domination ambitions in Asia, it costs the U.S. taxpayers approximately $150 billion a year for the hundreds of bases, plus another $1.4 billion for a years’ worth of China-bashing propaganda trying to make us believe China is a threat to the U.S. and we must therefore attack the country. It’s way past time to close the worthless U.S. military bases in Asia.
A UNITED FRONT FOR PEACE IS THE GATEWAY TO A WORLD WE WANT
“It is not in numbers, but in unity that our great strength lies.” (Thomas Paine) We must unify and build a strong united front for peace, bringing together activists for peace, civil rights, immigrant rights, labor rights, women’s equality, and environmental justice.
In 1950, W.E.B. DuBois knew that working together for peace is the gateway to a new civilization. He knew what path the United States was on 75 years ago – a slow and steady descent into believing it’s OK to spend a great deal of money for war and violence and spreading hundreds of US military bases around the world and on every sea.
What DuBois knew in 1950 is true in 2025: “of all the nations of earth today, the United States alone wants war, prepares for war, forces other nations to fight and asks you and me to impoverish ourselves , give up health and schools, sacrifice our sons and daughters to a Jim-Crow army, and commit suicide, for a world war that nobody wants but the rich Americans who profit by it. … But when did you ever vote for war? … When did you ever have a chance to decide this matter of maiming and murder? Never!” I Take My Stand, Political Affairs, Fall 1975, pgs. 15-20.
Instead of violence and war, he stated what he and most people want: “I want progress; I want education; I want social medicine; I want a living wage and old age security; I want employment for all and relief for the unemployed and sick; I want public works, public services and public improvements. I want freedom for my people. And because I know and you know that we cannot have these things, and at the same time fight, destroy and kill all around the world in order to make huge profits for big business; for that reason, I take my stand beside the millions in every nation and continent and cry Peace-No More War!”
China is a force for peace in a mad world where the drums of war are beating more dangerously than ever. We want peace with China and around the world so we can create the world we want.
Now is the time for a new kind of peace movement – one that brings together activists for labor rights, civil rights, environmental justice, immigrant rights, women’s equality, disability rights, churches, retirees organizations, veterans groups, and more. As W.E.B. Du Bois said, peace is not as the simple absence of conflict – it is the “presence of justice” and “the gateway to a new civilization.” Imagine if the trillions of dollars spent on war and weapons were instead spent on high-paying good jobs, ensure heath care and education for all, and a livable planet, clean water, sanitation and food?? Peace benefits uplift the many. Unite for peace.
PLEASE JOIN US IN WORKING FOR PEACE WITH CHINA AND AROUND THE WORLD!!
