SUMMARY:Interview with a Chavista: First-hand Report from Venezuela
DESCRIPTION:Interview with a Chavista: First-hand Report from Venezuela \nTuesday\, November 1st 2022 at 7:00pm \n4200 Cedar Ave S.\, Minneapolis MN 55407 \nBoth Democrats and Republicans alike have vilified the Bolivarian movement of Venezuela and its struggle for equality and liberation. Come hear from Dozthor Zurlent\, Venezuelan activist and former Hugo Chavez advisor\, who is touring the US about what the people of Venezuela are building and what the US is doing to undermine the Bolivarian process.\n\nInformation about our speaker: Dozthor Zurlent believes that solidarity among people and countries is a fundamental aspect of what makes us humans. As such\, he has been working\, since he was only a teenager\, in solidarity committees and organizations to support the struggle of the people in Cuba\, Nicaragua\, El Salvador\, Palestine\, and other important struggles of the people of the world. But he also has participated in the liberation struggle of Venezuela\, his birth country.\n\nAt the beginning of the century\, he started working as a political adviser to former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez\, on topics related to Latin America\, the United States and Europe. At the time\, he was also in charge of organizing and coordinating Bolivarian Circles and Venezuelan Solidarity Committees in North America and Europe. Dozthor has written articles and essays for a variety of English online publications and for Spanish newspapers and news websites.\n\nHe is a frequent face in Telesur\, ANTV and VTV. For almost 10 years\, he produced and directed radio programs on Venezuelan National Radio and YVKE Mundial Los Andes Radio. He also often appears in “La Radio del Sur” Radio station. You may also be able to find some of his Spanish written books online “Globalization of the Capitalist Crisis”\, 2003; “Understanding Development”\, 2008; “Supra-State vs Communal State”\, 2021.\n\nOrganized by the Anti-War Committee. Co-sponsored by Women Against Military Madness.

SUMMARY:September: Cuba Car Caravan Against the U.S. Blockade of Cuba
DESCRIPTION:September: Cuba Car Caravan Against the U.S. Blockade of Cuba \nSunday\, September 25th at 1:00pm \nSouth High School: 3131 19th Ave S\, Minneapolis MN. \nEnd the U.S. Blockade of Cuba!\n\nJoin SCOTA\, the Minnesota Cuba Committee and others for our monthly car caravan against the US blockade of Cuba. \n\nMeet us at South High School in Minneapolis or watch live on Facebook.\n\nThis month\, we’re focusing on the continuation of Cuba on the list of nations that the U.S. designates as “terrorist.”\n\nMore than 10\,000 people and 100 progressive advocacy groups have signed an open letter urging President Joe Biden to reverse the Trump administration’s terrorism designation for Cuba and to reinstate Obama-era policy for the island.\nThe international outcry against the U.S. intentional starvation blockade of Cuba is growing. These actions powerfully refute the U.S. claim that Marco Rubio\, Bob Menendez and Ted Cruz anti-Cuba campaign represents us.\n\nNow in their third year\, the public bike and car caravans that started in Miami and led by Cuban-Americans have broken up that myth. The September and October caravans coincide with important Cuba events.\n\nWatch this video\, produced by Cuban-Americans in Miami for the September 25 caravans (in Spanish with English subtitles).\n\nAlso on Sunday\, Cuba is voting on a new Families Code expanding rights. Read more here in the Peoples Dispatch article: Cuba prepares for referendum on progressive Family Code The new Family Code\, drafted in consultation with the general public\, is considered to be the world’s most inclusive and progressive code.\n\nOctober 29/30 comes the weekend before the UN General Assembly votes on Nov. 2-3 for ending the U.S. blockade on Cuba. This is the 30th year — since 1992! \n\nCar Caravan Details:\n\nMeet at South High School parking lot: 3131 19th Ave S\, Minneapolis MN.\n\n12:30: Volunteer car marshal training\n1:00: Line up and add signs and flags to cars at South High School parking lot\, 3131 19th Ave So\, Minneapolis. Signs and car flags will be available or bring your own. Caravan sponsors will make brief remarks.\n1:30: Caravan begins – left out of parking lot on 21st Street\, left on Lake Street\, right on First Ave. South\, left through Post Office parking lot\, left on Blaisdell and left on Lake back to South High.\n2:30: Brief closing rally at South High parking lot.\n\nThe lead car will be in contact with participating cars – details will be provided at the rally site. Contact 612-437-0222 for more information or if you’re joining late.\n\nTell Biden and Congress:\n\n-No Delay\, Lift the U.S. blockade NOW!\n-U.S. stop sanctioning Cuban families!\n-End all travel bans on Cuba!\n#UnblockCuba2022\n#LetCubaLive  \nSee less

SUMMARY:August Cuba Car Caravan Against the U.S. Blockade of Cuba
DESCRIPTION:August Cuba Car Caravan Against the U.S. Blockade of Cuba/Caravana Contra el Bloqueo\n\nSunday\, August 8th 2022 at 1:00-3:00pm\nSouth High School Parking Lot: 3131 19th Ave S.\, Minneapolis\n\nJoin us at the South High parking lot or watch the live stream on this page.\nSolidarity Committee on the Americas (SCOTA)\, the Minnesota Cuba Committee and other sponsors are convening monthly car caravans to protest the U.S. blockade of Cuba.\n\n12:30: Volunteer car marshal training\n1:00: Line up and add signs and flags to cars at South High School parking lot\, 3131 19th Ave So\, Minneapolis. Contact 612-437-0222 for more information or if you’re joining late.\n\nWhy a Caravan?\n\nFor 60 years (the anniversary was February 3)\, Cuba has endured the economic\, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the U.S. government. Every year this blockade is rejected by a near unanimous vote in the United Nations.\nDuring Trump’s term\, he imposed more than 220 measures to further harm the island’s economy and the Cuban people. President Biden has continued these repressive policies against Cuba and added even more sanctions. The blockade has caused great economic hardship in Cuba\, blocks food imports to Cuba and damages Cuba’s health care.\n\nDemand the U.S. government lift all its economic and political sanctions and end the blockade against Cuba.\n\nTell Biden and Congress:\n-No Delay\, Lift the U.S. blockade NOW!\n-U.S. stop sanctioning Cuban families!\n-End all travel bans on Cuba!\n#UnblockCuba2022\n#LetCubaLive
