SUMMARY:From Apathy to Action: Calling for Justice from Palestine to Minneapolis
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, August 7\, 2024\, 11:00 am\, Cavalry-Lutheran Church\, 3901 Chicago Ave\, Minneapolis\, MN \nHow do we understand the shared need for justice in both Minneapolis and Palestine? And how should the church be showing up and speaking out?\nJoin us for a conversation with Palestinian pastor Rev. Dr. Munther Isaac and local Twin Cities clergy and racial justice activists about liberation and solidarity across borders\, the connection and injustice in the US\, Palestine\, and beyond\, and the moral obligation of the church to advocate for and work alongside those oppressed by state violence both locally and abroad. To help view the conversation through a local lens\, we’ll be meeting near George Floyd Square\, the site of a national and global reckoning following the murder of George Floyd by state violence.\nMunther Isaac is a Palestinian Christian pastor and theologian. He pastors the Evangelical Lutheran Christmas Church in Bethlehem and the Lutheran Church in Beit Sahour. He is also the academic dean of Bethlehem Bible College\, and is the director ofthe highly acclaimed and influential Christ at the Checkpoint conferences.\nDuring the genocide in Gaza\, Munther gained global attention for his sermon\, “Christ under the Rubble” which was heard by tens of millions of people and subsequently quoted in South Africa’s case against Israel at the International Court of Justice. (You can watch his sermon or read the transcript here:https://redletterchristians.org/…/christ-in-the-rubble…/) He has appeared on CNN\, BBC\, Al Jazeera\, MSNBC\, CBS\, TRT and Democracy Now!\nMunther is passionate about issues related to the Palestinian theology. He speaks locally and internationally and has published numerous articles on issues related to the theology of the land\, Palestinian Christians and Palestinian theology\, holistic mission and reconciliation.\nRev. Isaac’s visit to the U.S. is sponsored by Friends of Sabeel North America (FOSNA).– Learn more about his visit here: https://www.fosna.org/…/fosna-presents-rev-munther-isaac– Donate to support his trip to Minneapolis here: https://www.zeffy.com/…/289a05a9-913a-4336-bbfa…\nThis event is hosted by:– Calvary Lutheran Church: https://www.clchurch.org/– Peace Catalyst International: peacecatalyst.org– Mayflower United Church of Christ: https://www.mayflowermpls.org/– Women Against Military Madness: https://womenagainstmilitarymadness.org/– MN Christians for Free Palestine– Palestine/Israel Committee at Holy Trinity Lutheran

SUMMARY:Vigil to End War
DESCRIPTION:The Vigil to End War is sponsored by the WAMM End War Committee (EWC). \nThe EWC is dedicated to ending U.S. involvement in war\, the threats of war\, and the production\, sale and use of the weapons of war. \nPlease wear a mask and maintain social distance! \nEvery Wednesday at the the Lake Street/Marshall Avenue Bridge \n4:00 pm – 5:00 pm (After April 3\, 2024 – 5:00-6:00 PM) \nSigns provided or bring your own. Check the WAMM calendar and Facebook events pages for special themes for the day! \nSponsored by the End War Committee \nIn 1999\, WAMM’s End War Committee partnered with other local activist groups to initiate a weekly vigil on the Lake Street and Marshal Avenue bridge in St.Paul. Originally in response to the U.S. and NATO bombings in Yugoslavia\, the vigil has continued weekly with different U.S. sanctions\, interventions\, and wars to protest. Every Wednesday for over 20 years—rain\, shine or below zero temps—activists in the Twin Cities have gathered to stand in solidarity with all those affected by U.S. militarism and to call for peace.

SUMMARY:Emergency Rally
DESCRIPTION:Emergency Rally\nTuesday\, August 27\, 2024\, 8:00 am press conference\, 9:00 am emergency rally\, McNamara Plaza\, 200 SE Oak St\, Minneapolis\, MN 55455 \nUMN Divest was made aware that the University of Minnesota Board of Regents would be voting on Regent Mayerons proposed ‘political neutrality’ policy for the University Endowment. This would effectively make the University administration unaccountable for any demands of current and future students for divestment from ANY institution committing war crimes\, human rights violations\, and genocide. This policy proposal is a direct reaction against the student\, staff\, and faculty’s demands of divestment from Israel and any entity complicit in war crimes and human rights violations and shows us once again that administration is always on the side of money. \nJoin UMN Divest outside McNamara at 8:00AM for a press conference and rally to show that the university community does not believe in the neutrality of the endowment and call in to the regents at 612-624-6608 to demand they vote NO to neutrality! \nUMN\, divest from genocide!! \nOrganized by UMN Divest

SUMMARY:Israelism Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, August 28th\, 6-9pm\, New City Center\, 3104 16th Ave S\, Minneapolis \nJoin us along with new WAMM members for a special screening of one of the best documentaries of 2023 (Arizona International Film Festival). Bring a friend! \n“Two young American Jews – Simone Zimmerman and Eitan – are raised to defend the state of Israel at all costs. Eitan joins the Israeli military. Simone supports Israel on ‘the other battlefield:’ America’s college campuses. When they witness Israel’s mistreatment of the Palestinian people with their own eyes\, they are horrified and heartbroken. \n\nThey join the movement of young American Jews battling the old guard over Israel’s centrality in American Judaism\, and demanding freedom for the Palestinian people. Their stories reveal a generational divide in the American Jewish community as more young Jews question the narratives their synagogues and Hebrew school teachers fed them as children. \n\n\nThe film also features voices like Jacqui\, a Jewish educator who says “Judaism is Israel and Israel is Judaism”\, and former Anti-Defamation League President Abe Foxman\, who claims voices like Simone and Eitan’s represent a small minority. Thought leaders like Peter Beinart\, Jeremy Ben-Ami\, Noura Erakat\, Cornel West\, and Noam Chomsky also weigh in. \nDirected by two first-time Jewish filmmakers who share a similar story to the film’s protagonists\, Israelism is produced by Peabody-winner and 4-time Emmy-nominee Daniel J. Chalfen (Loudmouth\, Boycott)\, executive produced by two-time Emmy-winner Brian A. Kates (Marvelous Ms. Maisel\, Succession) and edited by Emmy-winner Tony Hale (The Story of Plastic)\, Israelism uniquely explores how Jewish attitudes towards Israel are changing dramatically\, with massive consequences for the region and for Judaism itself.” \nSponsored by WAMM\, Twin Cities Jewish Voice for Peace\, MN Christians for a Free Palestine\, Ceasefire Choir Twin Cities
