SUMMARY:Vigil to End War
DESCRIPTION:The Vigil to End War is sponsored by the WAMM End War Committee (EWC). \nThe EWC is dedicated to ending U.S. involvement in war\, the threats of war\, and the production\, sale and use of the weapons of war. \nEvery Wednesday at the the Lake Street/Marshall Avenue Bridge \n4:00 pm – 5:00 pm  \nSigns provided or bring your own. Check the WAMM calendar and Facebook events pages for special themes for the day! \nSponsored by the End War Committee \nIn 1999\, WAMM’s End War Committee partnered with other local activist groups to initiate a weekly vigil on the Lake Street and Marshal Avenue bridge in St.Paul. Originally in response to the U.S. and NATO bombings in Yugoslavia\, the vigil has continued weekly with different U.S. sanctions\, interventions\, and wars to protest. Every Wednesday for over 20 years—rain\, shine or below zero temps—activists in the Twin Cities have gathered to stand in solidarity with all those affected by U.S. militarism and to call for peace.

SUMMARY:Repeal Minnesota's Anti-Boycott Laws
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, September 21\, 2025\, 1:00 PM\, Lucy Parsons Center\, 4100 28th Ave S\, Minneapolis \nPresented by Bob Goonin and Lucia. Smith\, representing MN BDS Community. In 2017 MN instituted a law that requires individuals and business owners who want to enter into a contract of $50\,000 or more with the State of Minnesota to certify they will not boycott the state of Israel. Minnesota joined 36 other states that have such laws. These anti-boycott laws directly violate rights to free speech guaranteed by the US Constitution. Such anti-boycott bills have been used as models to undermine boycotts of fossil fuel\, gun manufacturers and more — with just a few minor wording changes. The laws were formulated by ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council)\, which crafts legislation to implement ultra-conservative and reactionary goals. After years of organizing efforts to repeal the anti-boycott law\, repeal is within reach during the approaching legislative session. The MN BDS community is establishing a citizen-driven campaign encouraging Minnesotans to advocate for our free speech rights. Repeal is possible now! \nLearn how to make it happen: You can encourage your legislators to support SF3356 and HF3258 to repeal the anti-boycott law. \nHosted by WAMM Middle East Committee

SUMMARY:In the Wake of the Black Snake: Line 3 Four Years Later
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, October 1\, 2025\, 5:00 PM\, Carl W Kroening Nature Center\, 4900 N Mississippi Dr\, Minneapolis\, MN \nVia zoom: Register at bit.ly/Line3Update \nJoin Three Waters’ Bee Kakac for a presentation on the state of Line 3/93 four years after the completion of construction on September 30\, 2021. This event is also a grassroots fundraiser to support her monitoring work.\nIn the intervening years\, state regulators have done little if anything to identify and address construction damage that might have been missed during construction\, according to publicly available information. Kakac is one of many citizen observers who have taken it upon themselves to document construction damage after Line 3/93 construction ended. She has taken thermal drone images of the corridor in 2022\, 2023\, 2024 and most recently August\, 2025. She will present her findings from this summer\, answer questions\, and give space to the community for a conversation about where we go from here. Three Waters Pipeline Resistance Team is happy to partner with Kakac to make this event happen.💧💧 \nThis is a hybrid event\, in-person at the Carl W. Kroenig Nature Center in North Minneapolis\, and virtual via Zoom. A Zoom link will be sent to your email upon registration. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. \nThis work takes money! While there is absolutely no expectation of a minimum donation\, Kakac is graciously collecting donations through her Venmo\, @bkakac\, or her Cashapp\, $BeeKakac. \nEvent registration link HERE

SUMMARY:Bitter Cane Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, October 11\, 2025\, 12 – 3 PM\, Phoenix Theater\, 2605 Hennepin Ave\, Minneapolis\, MN\nSTUDY THE HAITIAN STRUGGLE FOR LIBERATIONJoin us in viewing the award-winning documentary Bitter Cane\, a 1983 film about the exploitation and foreign domination of the Haitian people.\nOctober 1th\, 12-3 PM\nThe Phoenix Theatre\, 2605 Hennepin Avenue\, Minneapolis\nRegister: https://tinyurl.com/4ukmbfy5\nTo better understand the current situation in Haiti\, it’s important to look back on its history. US occupation\, foreign intervention and the exploitation of local workers by western capitalism are not unfamiliar in Haiti. For the past century\, outside forces have continuously disrupted Haiti’s sovereignty and attempted to undermine the self-determination of its people.Bitter Cane was produced and filmed secretly by a collective of Haitian and American filmmakers—many of whom were articulated with the Mouvement Haïtien de Libération (Haitian Liberation Movement) during the dictatorship of Jean-Claude Duvalier. \nAlthough filmed over 40 years ago\, the highlighted themes and struggles explored in Bitter Cane are heartbreakingly relevant today—to Haitians\, Haitians in diaspora\, and Haitian workers of the world demanding sovereignty\, fair wages\, equal rights\, and a release from the grip of imperialism\, racism\, and exploitation. \nSnacks provided and available for purchase\nDiscussion and Q+A to follow!
