SUMMARY:The Palestine Exception Screening
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, May 15\, 2025\, 3:00 – 4:30 PM\, Rapson Hall\, Room 100\, 89 Church Street SE\, Mpls \n🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸Join us on Nakba Day\, this Thursday\, May 15th for a free screening of “The Palestine Exception” at UMN. \n📍Rapson Hall\, Room 100\n89 Church Street SE \n⏰ 3 PM \nAs we prepare for the Nakba March on Saturday\, May 17\, join us on Thursday May 15 to watch the film\, “The Palestine Exception.” Let us not be silent about the ongoing Nakba in Palestine! \nAbout the film: “After years of right-wing assaults on higher education\, attacks took a new form in 2023 and 2024 that has been described as the new McCarthyism. As students across the country organize protests against Israel’s war on Gaza\, decades-long taboos in academia around criticism of Israel–the “Palestine exception”–are shattered. This film features professors and students as they join calls for a ceasefire and divestment from companies that do business with Israel and face waves of crackdown from administrators\, the media\, the police and politicians. Scholars from diverse disciplines explain what is at stake in these protests and why so many young people identify with the Palestinian cause. The documentary unfolds as a story of college campuses as sites of both rebellion and repression\, places where personal and collective histories converge in unexpected ways.“\n#nakba #palestineexception #umn \nSponsored by WAMM\, the Free Palestine Coalition and many more

This new book by Timmon Wallis describes a second by second scenario that leads\, instead\, to the complete elimination of these weapons – before it’s too late. Maybe not as gripping as an account of nuclear war unfolding in real time\, but absolutely essential reading for all who want to avoid one. \nTimmon Wallis is a former Executive Director of Nonviolent Peaceforce\, founded in the Twin Cities and currently working in 10 countries to protect civilians caught up in violence and armed conflict. He is currently Executive Director of NuclearBan.US\, working to build support in the US for the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. Timmon was directly involved in the negotiations at the UN which led to this treaty\, and which won his colleagues in the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize. \nThomas Hanson is a former U.S. Foreign Service Officer with the Department of State whose diplomatic postings included East Germany\, France\, Norway\, the Soviet Union\, Sweden\, and the former Soviet Republic of Georgia. He also participated in the opening of new U.S. embassies in Mongolia and Estonia\, worked on the Foreign Relations Committees of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives\, and served as Director for NATO and European Affairs at the Atlantic Council of the United States in Washington\, D.C. \nMr. Hanson currently is Diplomat in Residence at the Alworth Institute for International Affairs at the University of Minnesota – Duluth and has taught diplomacy at Carleton College. He also serves as Chair of the Minnesota Committee on Foreign Relations and as Co-Chair of the Minnesota International Business Council. SUMMARY:WALK AGAINST WEAPONS 2025
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, June 7\, 2025\, 10:30 AM gather\, 11AM march begins\, 30 Langford Park\, St Paul\, MN \n\n\nCan’t attend but want to sponsor a walker? Go to: womenagainstmilitarymadness.org/donate \n\n\nWomen Against Military Madness is now in its 43rd year and would love to have you join WAMM’s 18th annual Walk Against Weapons of War on Saturday\, June 7\, 2025. We will gather at Langford Park in St. Paul at 10:30 AM (near Como Ave and Energy Park Drive). We will walk about one mile to ForwardEdge ASIC (a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin) for a rally before returning to the park. \nIt is shocking and unconscionable: the billions of dollars that the United States is spending on war and weapons of war for death and destruction instead of people’s needs at home. The world’s largest weapons manufacturer\, Lockheed Martin\, supplies Israel with F-16 and F-35 fighter jets\, which Israel has been using extensively to bomb Gaza. Israel also uses the company’s C-130 Hercules transport planes to support the ground invasion of Gaza. \nJust for your information\, June 7th is also St. Anthony Park’s art festival along Como Avenue. Como Avenue is open to traffic. You may want to check out the art and music after WAMM’s walk. \nOrganized by WAMM Fundraising Committee

SUMMARY:🇵🇸 DFL DINES WHILE GAZA STARVES 🇵🇸
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, June 13\, 2025\, 5 PM\, The Minneapolis Hilton\, 1001 Marquette Ave\, Mpls \nDFL DINES WHILE GAZA STARVES Oppose Trump’s agenda! Divest Minnesota from Israel! Rally outside the DFL’s annual Humphrey-Mondale Dinner fundraiser The Minneapolis Hilton\, 1001 Marquette Ave. Friday\, June 13 5 PMIsrael’s genocide is becoming undeniable. On top of daily bombings of schools and hospitals\, Israeli forces have now repeatedly killed dozens of Palestinians trying to access food at Israel’s much-criticized distribution sites. Even major U.S. allies are beginning to cut support for Israel’s ethnic cleansing system in Palestine.Join us to demand our state leaders join them by divesting Minnesota funds\, managed by the State Board of Investment\, from Israel. Governor Tim Walz\, Attorney General Keith Ellison\, State Auditor Julie Blaha and Secretary of State Steve Simon make up the SBI’s board members and are prominent DFLers. They have the power to take action against both the ongoing genocide\, and against Trump’s extremist\, full throttle attacks on all fronts\, domestically and abroad.State divestment from Israel would not only weaken support for its massacres in Palestine — it would send an important message that Minnesota is ready to fight Trump’s agenda across the board. It’s time for the SBI and DFL members to do what’s right:Oppose Trump’s agenda! SUMMARY:MEPN June Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, June 14\, 2025\, 10 – 11:30 AM\, Online\, register here\nJoin us on June 14 for MEPN’s next webinar\nMoneer Rifai will address “Winning Hearts\, Building Bridges: A Civil Dialogue Approach to Palestinian Solidarity” \n10am Central time on Zoom\, Saturday\, June 14\, 2025\nWebinar is free\, but registration is required.\n\nHow do we move beyond echo chambers and bring more people into the movement for Palestinian rights? In this presentation\, Moneer Rifai will share a different kind of activism\, one rooted in extreme empathy\, human connection\, and face-to-face dialogue. By focusing on the importance of dialogue and acknowledging the pain of everyone involved in this conflict\, he has found it effective to reach a wider range of audiences\, including the media\, and ultimately shift perspectives. By engaging with the Jewish community and fostering mutual understanding\, Moneer has seen how we can build unlikely alliances. It’s not about giving up the fight—it’s about changing the way we fight for justice. \nAbout the speaker: Moneer is a Palestinian American with roots in Lebanon\, now living in Minnesota. He is dedicated to community-building\, fostering civil dialogue\, promoting peace\, and amplifying moderate voices to create positive\, lasting change. He has spoken to many community groups\, schools and congregations. He has been featured on Minnesota Public Radio and other media outlets.\n\nOrganized by Middle East Peace Now\, sponsored by WAMM Middle East Committee
