DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, May 28\, 2025\, 7 – 8 PM\, Magers & Quinn Booksellers\, 3038 Hennepin Avenue Minneapolis\, MN 55408\nRegister here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/timmon-wallis-presents-nuclear-abolition-registration-1308736739819?aff=oddtdtcreator \n  \nAnnie Jacobsen’s 2024 bestseller\, Nuclear War: A Scenario describes second by second how the launch of a single nuclear weapon could end up destroying civilization in 72 minutes. This new book by Timmon Wallis describes a second by second scenario that leads\, instead\, to the complete elimination of these weapons – before it’s too late. Maybe not as gripping as an account of nuclear war unfolding in real time\, but absolutely essential reading for all who want to avoid one. \nTimmon Wallis is a former Executive Director of Nonviolent Peaceforce\, founded in the Twin Cities and currently working in 10 countries to protect civilians caught up in violence and armed conflict. He is currently Executive Director of NuclearBan.US\, working to build support in the US for the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. Timmon was directly involved in the negotiations at the UN which led to this treaty\, and which won his colleagues in the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize. \nThomas Hanson is a former U.S. Foreign Service Officer with the Department of State whose diplomatic postings included East Germany\, France\, Norway\, the Soviet Union\, Sweden\, and the former Soviet Republic of Georgia. He also participated in the opening of new U.S. embassies in Mongolia and Estonia\, worked on the Foreign Relations Committees of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives\, and served as Director for NATO and European Affairs at the Atlantic Council of the United States in Washington\, D.C. \nMr. Hanson currently is Diplomat in Residence at the Alworth Institute for International Affairs at the University of Minnesota – Duluth and has taught diplomacy at Carleton College. He also serves as Chair of the Minnesota Committee on Foreign Relations and as Co-Chair of the Minnesota International Business Council. He is a past board member of the Oslo Center for Peace and Human Rights and Director at the Institute for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (IEECA). He is also a member of the U.S. Foreign Policy Working Group of the British International Studies Association (BISA) as well as the Council of Advisers at the Museum of Russian Art and the Minnesota Peace Initiative (MPI) at Norway House. \nAs a member of the Great Decisions speakers bureau of Global Minnesota\, Mr. Hanson speaks frequently on international issues and contributes to local and international media. \nMr. Hanson holds a BA degree from the University of Minnesota and graduate degrees from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy; the Institute of Advanced International Studies in Geneva\, Switzerland; and the National School of Administration (ENA) in Paris\, France. \nAbout Events at M&Q: \nThese are guidelines only\, and if you have questions about the most up to date information\, you can always call us at 612-822-4611. \nQ: Do I need to register? \nA: Please do if at all possible! Use the registration button above. SUMMARY:WALK AGAINST WEAPONS 2025
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, June 7\, 2025\, 10:30 AM gather\, 11AM march begins\, 30 Langford Park\, St Paul\, MN \n\n\nCan’t attend but want to sponsor a walker? Go to: womenagainstmilitarymadness.org/donate \n\n\nWomen Against Military Madness is now in its 43rd year and would love to have you join WAMM’s 18th annual Walk Against Weapons of War on Saturday\, June 7\, 2025. We will gather at Langford Park in St. Paul at 10:30 AM (near Como Ave and Energy Park Drive). We will walk about one mile to ForwardEdge ASIC (a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin) for a rally before returning to the park. \nIt is shocking and unconscionable: the billions of dollars that the United States is spending on war and weapons of war for death and destruction instead of people’s needs at home. The world’s largest weapons manufacturer\, Lockheed Martin\, supplies Israel with F-16 and F-35 fighter jets\, which Israel has been using extensively to bomb Gaza. Israel also uses the company’s C-130 Hercules transport planes to support the ground invasion of Gaza. \nJust for your information\, June 7th is also St. Anthony Park’s art festival along Como Avenue. Como Avenue is open to traffic. You may want to check out the art and music after WAMM’s walk. \nOrganized by WAMM Fundraising Committee

SUMMARY:🇵🇸 DFL DINES WHILE GAZA STARVES 🇵🇸
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, June 13\, 2025\, 5 PM\, The Minneapolis Hilton\, 1001 Marquette Ave\, Mpls \nDFL DINES WHILE GAZA STARVES Oppose Trump’s agenda! Divest Minnesota from Israel! Rally outside the DFL’s annual Humphrey-Mondale Dinner fundraiser The Minneapolis Hilton\, 1001 Marquette Ave. Friday\, June 13 5 PMIsrael’s genocide is becoming undeniable. On top of daily bombings of schools and hospitals\, Israeli forces have now repeatedly killed dozens of Palestinians trying to access food at Israel’s much-criticized distribution sites. Even major U.S. allies are beginning to cut support for Israel’s ethnic cleansing system in Palestine.Join us to demand our state leaders join them by divesting Minnesota funds\, managed by the State Board of Investment\, from Israel. Governor Tim Walz\, Attorney General Keith Ellison\, State Auditor Julie Blaha and Secretary of State Steve Simon make up the SBI’s board members and are prominent DFLers. They have the power to take action against both the ongoing genocide\, and against Trump’s extremist\, full throttle attacks on all fronts\, domestically and abroad.State divestment from Israel would not only weaken support for its massacres in Palestine — it would send an important message that Minnesota is ready to fight Trump’s agenda across the board. It’s time for the SBI and DFL members to do what’s right:Oppose Trump’s agenda! Divest Minnesota from Israel! Organized by MN AWC\, sponsored by WAMM

In this presentation\, Moneer Rifai will share a different kind of activism\, one rooted in extreme empathy\, human connection\, and face-to-face dialogue. By focusing on the importance of dialogue and acknowledging the pain of everyone involved in this conflict\, he has found it effective to reach a wider range of audiences\, including the media\, and ultimately shift perspectives. By engaging with the Jewish community and fostering mutual understanding\, Moneer has seen how we can build unlikely alliances. It’s not about giving up the fight—it’s about changing the way we fight for justice. \nAbout the speaker: Moneer is a Palestinian American with roots in Lebanon\, now living in Minnesota. He is dedicated to community-building\, fostering civil dialogue\, promoting peace\, and amplifying moderate voices to create positive\, lasting change. He has spoken to many community groups\, schools and congregations. DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, June 15\, 2025\, during Sunday mass\, St Joan of. Arc Church\, 4537 3rd Ave. S | Minneapolis\, MN 55419 \nHello\, friends! As leaders of our CARE Committee and the Sustaining Partners of our SJA Outreach Fund (Sister Parish\, Women Against Military Madness\, Arm in Arm in Africa\, Risen Christ School\, and Mobile Loaves Twin Cities)\, we invite all of you to join our annual Outreach Sunday celebration on Sunday\, June 15. \n\nI believe you are all familiar with this celebration\, when we have table space in the Welcome Center for information and a chance to connect with SJAers after mass. It is joyful chaos. And fyi\, we encourage you to  recruit parishioners to staff your table space so that you all don’t have to work all day Sunday!\n\nThis year\, we have a special (and awesome) challenge\, which is that we have a record number of Justice Grant recipient organizations joining us.
