SUMMARY:End the Economic War on Cuba Protest
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, October 28\, 2024\, 4:00 pm\, Minneapolis Federal Building\, 4th St and 4th Ave \nEND THE BLOCKADE NOW! For 32 years the United Nations General Assembly has voted every year\, almost unanimously\, to end the US economic blockade against Cuba\, which the US has imposed for over 60 years causing considerable hardship on the people of Cuba. In 2021 the US added the designation of Cuba as a “state sponsor of terrorism\,” a false charge that nonetheless leads to more sanctions. This year the UN will be voting on the US sanctions on Cuba on October 29. \nWe stand with the world. Join with the MN Cuba Committee\, Solidarity Committee on the Americas and others to protest this cruel unjust and illegal aggression against Cuba. \nCo-sponsored by MN Cuba Committee and SCOTA

SUMMARY:Post-Election Protest
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, November 6\, 2024\, 5:00 PM\, Mayday Plaza\, 301 Cedar Ave S\, Minneapolis\n\nJoin us for a post-election protest!\nNo matter the outcome\, we keep up the fight!\nProtest to stand for a free Palestine and a broad people’s agenda at home!\n\n\nThe day after the presidential election\, even if results are still being tallied\, we know we will have to keep up the fight for everything that working and oppressed people need. We have nothing in common with the ruling class candidates on the ballot. Harris and Trump both support Israel’s genocide. They both hate immigrants. And while Trump has promised to wreak havoc on reproductive and women’s rights\, workers rights\, the climate\, police accountability and anything else we care about\, Harris will need to be pushed on these too. Their election will not stop our fight. \nInitiated by Freedom Road Socialist Organization\, endorsed by WAMM\, MN Anti War Committee and others.

SUMMARY:Veterans For Peace Armistice Day Service
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, November 11\, 2024\, 10:45 AM\, Monument at 44th Ave N and Victory Memorial Drive—Minneapolis \n\n\n\nWalk from 33rd & Xerxes No. to Victory Memorial\n             9:30 AM. or meet us the Memorial for the program at 11 AM\n\n\n\nPlease join Veterans For Peace as we give pause on this day of remembering the 100th Anniversary of the signing of the Armistice of 1918\, ending World War 1\, the bloodiest and most destructive war in the history of humankind\, what we have become in this country. A country of unending war with a Pentagon that consumes over half of our tax dollars\, the world’s largest arms dealer and where politicians no longer even speak of Peace and Genocide is now ok and supported by our government. Remembering that it was a day about Peace and was to be the War to End All Wars. Let us Reclaim Armistice Day and become once again a Nation and a World committed to Peace “through good will and mutual understanding.”\n\nWe will gather at the monument at 44th Ave N in Minneapolis at 10:45 am and commence with our bell ringing at 11:00 am. Also some will march from 33rd and Victory Memorial Drive to the monument passing by the markers of those lives lost in WW1 beginning at 9:30am. Organized by Veterans for Peace Chapter 27\, endorsed by WAMM

SUMMARY:Rally to Close Monticello Nuclear Plant!
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, November 21\, 2024\, 4:00-5:00 PM\, Xcel Energy\, 401 Nicollet Mall\, Minneapolis\, MN \nUPCOMING RALLY ✊☮️🌎! Close Monticello Nuclear Plant! \nWe oppose Xcel Energy’s request to extend\, for 20 more years\, the current operating license of Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant. The plant on the Mississippi River\, 35 miles northwest of Minneapolis\, is 53 years old\, already among the three oldest in the United States. Recent radioactive leaks at the reactor pose serious threats to public health\, the Mississippi River\, and drinking water for millions. \nTell Xcel to shut down the ancient Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant! \nOrganized by Coalition For a Nuclear-Free Mississippi River\, WAMM\, and Indigenous Earth Protectors \n++++++++++++++++++++++++++ \n⚠️ Sign the Petition to Demand 2030 Monticello Nuclear Reactor Closure ⚠️ \nPlease take one minute to sign a petition demanding to keep the Monticello Nuclear Reactor’s 2030 closure date as Xcel Energy seeks to run its 53 year-old reactor for another 20 years! \nA massive leak at the reactor in 2022 released radioactivity into the Mississippi River and contaminated the groundwater beneath the reactor with levels of radioactive tritium 250 times greater than the EPA’s safe drinking water limit. \nPlease share this widely. Help us reach one million signatures by the end of this year\, before the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission issues its decision to keep this reactor operating! \nSign the petition at MoveOn.org: https://sign.moveon.org/petitions/petition-for-a-nuclear-free-mississippi-river \nAdditional resources and sources can be found at: SavetheMississippi.com and nukewatchinfo.org. SUMMARY:November MEPN Forum
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, November 30\, 2024\, 10:00 – 11:30 AM\, Online\, click here to register \nNina’s Story: The Life of a Palestinian Woman\n\nAbout the speaker: Nina Cullers was born in Katamon\, West Jerusalem during the British Mandate. After the Nakba her family lived in Bethlehem. After high school Nina worked for UNRWA in Hebron\, the Dheisheh Camp outside of Bethlehem and Beit Safafa. Her work was as a teacher\, head teacher and finally as a supervisor of practice teachers. Nina then went on to earn a degree in education from Beirut Women’s College\, now American Lebanese University. Nina now resides in Virginia in the United States. She has been a board member of the Bethlehem Association of the Episcopal Church for 26 years. Additionally\, she continues advocacy work for Palestine. She recently published her memoir\, “Living Through the Nakba: Tales of a Palestinian Youth.” \nNina’s memoir\, “Living Through the Nakba: Tales of a Palestinian Youth” is just the beginning of her lifelong experiences as a Palestinian woman. Travel with her through her life in our forum.  Children and her Palestinian heritage are very important to Nina. In her memoir she says\, “Teach them (children) our tradition\, our art\, our songs\, our poetry and remind them that they came from honorable\, brave people who cared for humanity.”’ Her work with children began with teaching in UNRWA schools. After the 1949 Armistice her family came to the realization that they had no home to go to. Share this experience with Nina. Come with her to the present day as we hear her say\, “I urge all Palestinians to remember our past\, our history\, our family values and to instill these values in our children.” \nToward the end of the forum we will have a conversation with Nina about parallels between her life experiences and what is happening to Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza today. \nNOTE: A brief annual MEPN meeting will be held for a few minutes before our forum begins. It will feature a message from our president\, Janet Tollund\, along with finance and membership updates. An election for new board members will conclude the meeting. \nPlease contact mepn@mepn.org with any questions. Organized by Middle East Peace Now\, sponsored by WAMM Middle East Committee

SUMMARY:Green Party Webinar on Climate and the Military
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, December 9\, 2024\, 7:00 PM CST\, Online webinar\, Click here to register \n“Green Party Webinar on Climate and the Military – Mon. Dec. 9” \nOn Monday\, December 9\, at 8 PM (EST) the EcoAction Committee and the Green Party Peace Action Committee are holding a webinar on the issue of the military and climate change. Speakers will include Haig Hovaness of GPAX; Prof. David Schwartzman of EcoAction; and Sue Ann Martinson of the End Military Madness Against the Earth Committee of WAMM (Women Against Military Madness). Pre-registration is required. RSVP Here. \nThe military impacts climate change in multiple ways. War and military conflicts are environmental and climate disasters. Severe weather events and global warming destabilize countries\, especially those with already unstable governments and under-resourced infrastructure. The competition for land\, water\, and food\, as well as dealing with potentially tens of millions of climate refugees (including many already coming to the US)\, increases the likelihood of military conflicts between countries. \nThe global military\, with the Pentagon in the lead\, has been the biggest greenhouse gas emissions of any institution on the planet\, representing between 1 to 5% of annual emissions.  The $2 trillion spent on the military worldwide diverts resources that could be spent on climate action instead. And many wars are fought over access to fossil fuels. \nThe Green Party Peace Action Committee (GPAX) works to strengthen the peace pillar of the USGP. GPAX supports peace actions\, produces anti-war webinars\, issues public statements\, and assists GP candidates for political office. GPAX welcomes new members who wish to participate in this work. The EcoAction Committee promotes ecological wisdom\, environmental justice\, sustainability and responsible governmental stewardship of the Earth and its inhabitants. \nHaig Hovaness is the Co-Chair of GPAX. He has written and spoken on defense issues and the danger of conflict escalation. Haig has a professional background in information technology. Videos of his GPAX presentations are available at the GPAX website\, https://gpax.gpus.org/ \nWomen Against Military Madness (WAMM) is a member-based organization whose mission is to oppose U.S. militarism and involvement in wars. WAMM challenges systems of harm\, oppression and exploitation\, and helps build movements of solidarity with others for peace and justice through education and action. \nDavid Schwartzman is a member of the EcoAction Committee. He is a Professor Emeritus\, Howard University (biogeochemist\, environmental scientist\, PhD\, Brown University) and an active member of the DC Statehood Green Party/Green Party of the United States. He will focus on the need for the near future defeat of militarized fossil capital and its political instruments. \nOrganized by the EcoAction Committee and the Green Party Peace Action Committee

SUMMARY:Pack the Room to Demand Divestment!
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, December 10\, 2024\, 9:30 AM\, 50 Sherburne Avenue (Conference Room 116B)\, St Paul\, MN \nThe MN State Board of Investment attempted to prevent us from protesting their meetings. \nBut the Free Palestine Coalition will be there. Hundreds of Minnesotans have turned out to pack State Board of Investment meetings and send a clear message: public pension money should not be used to fund genocide! The State Board of Investment has responded by trying to move their meetings online. They have now gone back on that decision\, adopting hybrid meetings. \nThe fact that the board feels the need to shut down public comment at their meetings and try to prevent us from attending is evidence of the strength of our movement. \nHelp us pack the room to demonstrate that the Palestine solidarity movement isn’t going anywhere\, and that we demand divestment now. \nOrganized by MN Free Palestine Coalition
