SUMMARY:Pipeline Blues Farewell to the Mansion Special Vigil
DESCRIPTION:Pipeline Blues Farewell to the Mansion Special Vigill\nMonday\, June 26\, 2022\, 4:00-5:00 pm\nMN Governor’s Mansion\, 1006 Summit Ave in St Paul \nThis is the last Monday of Gov. Walz’s use of the official residence before the family moves to Eastcliff (July 1st\, according to news coverage) while the Summit Avenue mansion is undergoing renovation and repairs. The Pipeline Blues/Stop Line 3 Vigilers continue to evaluate and plan for the future location of the vigil. Vigil-Scouts will scope out the situation on Summit Ave. Meanwhile\, the focus of the vigil is broadening to embrace large issues of environmental destruction – especially by the U.S. military – in addition to the piping of tar-sands oil that we’ve always opposed. Spread the word about the expanded vigil and demo on Monday\, June 26\, 4:00-5:00pm. It will be lively and vibrant as vigilers and protesters stand in opposition to environmental ruin. Onward!

SUMMARY:Say NO to NATO
DESCRIPTION:Say NO to NATO\nTuesday\, July 11\, 2023\,  5:00 PM\nSen Klobuchar’s office\, 1200 Washington Ave\, Mpls (near the intersection of 35W and Washington Ave.)\n\nNATO is meeting July 11-12 where they have announced they will put 300\,000 forces on higher readiness\, tighten air & missile defense\, and reaffirm Ukraine’s rightful place is in NATO. At every moment NATO has worked to INCREASE tension in Ukraine. NATO is a military alliance aimed at Russia and has always been seen as a force for aggression. This plus the $46.6 billion the US has sent in military assistance is PROLONGING the conflict. We call for negotiations and for peace which can’t happen while NATO is saber rattling.\nInitiated by MN Peace Action Coalition.

SUMMARY:Stop the Attacks on Queer and Trans Rights!
DESCRIPTION:Stop the Attacks on Queen and Trans Rights rally\nFriday\, July 14\, 2023\, The Commons\, 425 Portland Ave in downtown Minneapolis\n\nJoin Taking Back Pride Coalition to protest ongoing attacks made by SCOTUS on LGBTQ+\, Black and Brown\, and working class people on Friday\, July 14th at 4pm at The Commons park in downtown Minneapolis\n\nWe know that the recent ruling in favor or 303 Creative LLC to discriminate against LGBTQ+ people is just the beginning. Besides hurting Queer people\, it provides legal precedent for discrimination against Black and Brown people\, as well as many other groups. Now is not the time to be neutral! Roe was just the beginning of this courts attacks; cases like Obergefell and Loving\, that established legally recognized Gay and Interracial marriage respectively\, and Lawrence\, that recognized sodomy laws as unconstitutional\, will be on the chopping block. If we want to keep what few rights we have today\, we have to be willing to take to the streets! We won’t go back in the closet\, and we won’t go back to Jim Crow!\n\nSponsorred by Taking Back Pride Coalition\, MN Abortion Rights Committee\, Twin Cities Justice 4 Jamar\, Minneapolis Community for Police Accountability Commission\, Anti-War Committee\, Women Against Military Madness and Freedom Road Socialist Organization-Twin Cities.

SUMMARY:Film Screening: Silvio Rodríguez - My First Calling
DESCRIPTION:Film Screening: Silvio Rodriquez – My First Calling\nWednesday\, July 26\, 2023 at 7 pm\nLind Hall Room 302\, U of Minnesota East Bank\n207 Church St SE in Minneapoolis\n\n\nWhat Difference Could a Revolution Make? Lessons from Cuba’s Literacy Campaign\n\nThis year’s July 26th is the 70th anniversary of the attack on the U.S.-backed Fulgencio Batista dictatorship’s Moncada barracks in Santiago\, led by Fidel Castro. This was the opening gun of the Cuban Revolution. This year is also the 125th anniversary of Washington’s invasion of Cuba. This meeting will discuss one of the earliest great accomplishments of the Cuban revolution – the 1961 literacy campaign\, when a quarter of a million volunteers\, the brigadistas\, who were mostly young women\, went to every corner of Cuba to teach people to read and write. They packed their bags and set out for the remotest villages\, many without electricity or running water. In a little over a year\, literacy rates in Cuba went from only 60%-76% to almost 100%.\n\nWhy did the Cuban revolution prioritize literacy? What can we learn from this campaign?\n\nProgram:\nFilm: Silvio Rodríguez: My First Calling\nGlobal music giant Silvio Rodriguez recounts his coming of age story as a volunteer on the youth brigades of the 1961 Cuban Literacy Campaign.\n\nSpeakers:\n• Matthew Streitz\, Young Democratic Socialists of America\, University of Minnesota\n• Gary Prevost\, Member\, Minnesota Cuba Committee\, Professor Emeritus of Political Science and Latin American Studies\, College of St. Benedict/St. John’s University\n\nWednesday\, July 26\, 2023\, 7:00 p.m.\nLind Hall-Room 302\, 207 Church St. SE\, University of Minnesota East Bank campus\n\nSponsored by: Minnesota Cuba Committee\, Young Democratic Socialist of America\, University of Minnesota\, Solidarity Committee on the Americas\nFor more information: mncuba@gmail.com\, https://www.facebook.com/MNCubaCmte/

It also reveals a new angle on the American Civil Rights Movement in 1960\, then returns\nfull circle to South Africa in the 1980s as activists help dismantle apartheid.\n\nDirected by Steve York\nWETA (PBS) | US | 2000 | 84 mins\nMasks and social distancing by choice.\n\nConnecting the dots…discussion\nAlways FREE and open to the public\nALL ARE WELCOME! DESCRIPTION:The Power of Personal Courage in an Era of Mass Censorship \nMonday\, September 11\, 2023 at 6:00pm \nReception begins: 6:00 pm \nTalk begins: ~6:30/7 pm \nLOCATION UPDATE: Hook and Ladder Theater & Lounge\, 3010 Minnehaha Ave in Minneapolis 55406\nFormer British Ambassador to Uzbekistan and “War on Terror” anti-torture whistleblower Craig John Murray will lead a discussion on the defense of Julian Assange and Freedom of Press/Speech. Mr. Murray speaks not only politically and ideologically about the Assange case and its ramifications for maintaining freedom and democracy but with the passion of his personal friendship with Julian Assange and the Assange family. \nMurray is a Scottish author\, human rights campaigner\, journalist\, and former diplomat. After “9-11 changed everything\,” (exactly 22 years ago this date!) and while Murray was the British ambassador to Uzbekistan\, he exposed extremely serious violations of human rights taking place in that country. \nSponsored by Tackling Torture at the Top (T3) action group of Women Against Military Madness

SUMMARY:Middle East Peace Now September Forum
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, September 16\, 2023\, 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. \nOnline event\, clink link here to register \nCo-sponsored event sponsored by Middle East Peace Now (MEPN). \nUS Policy Toward Israel At a Turning Point\, with Mitchell Plitnick\, President\, ReThinking Foreign Policy\nThe perception of Israel in the United States\, in virtually every corner except the halls of Congress\, has undergone a radical transformation in 2023. Ongoing and escalating violence by settlers\, while not new\, has reached unprecedented heights and the involvement of Israeli military and security forces in those attacks has gotten more exposure than ever before. Israel’s own radically right-wing government has escalated military attacks as well\, with the attack on Jenin in June highlighting a growing understanding that Israel is\, at best\, disregarding Palestinian lives. Yet despite Israel’s escalating violence and its de facto annexation of much of the West Bank\, mainstream congressional Democrats have doubled down on their support for Israel while the Biden administration has accelerated efforts to broker a normalization agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia. I will discuss the implications of all of these factors and how they are connected.Mitchell Plitnick\, a political analyst and writer\, is the president of ReThinking Foreign Policy.  He is the author\, with Marc Lamont Hill\, of Except for Palestine: The Limits of Progressive Politics. Mitchell’s previous positions include vice president at the Foundation for Middle East Peace\, Director of the US Office of B’Tselem: The Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories\, and Co-Director of Jewish Voice for Peace. His writing has appeared in Ha’aretz\, the New Republic\, Mondoweiss\, Responsible Statecraft\, The New Arab\, Middle East Report\, LobeLog\, the San Francisco Chronicle\, +972 Magazine\, and other outlets. He has spoken all over the country on Middle East politics and has regularly offered commentary in a wide range of radio and television outlets including PBS News Hour\, the O’Reilly Factor\, i24 (Israel)\, Pacifica Radio\, CNBC Asia and others. Plitnick graduated with honors from UC Berkeley in Middle Eastern Studies and wrote his thesis on Israeli and Jewish historiography. He earned his Masters Degree from the University of Maryland\, College Park’s School of Public Policy. SUMMARY:Camp Ripley Peace Vigil
DESCRIPTION:Camp Ripley Peace Vigil\nSunday\, September 17\, 2023 10:00 am – 2:00 pm\nCamp Ripley\n15000 Highway 115\, north of Little Falls \nBrainerd Area Coalition for Peace (BACP) and Brainerd Lakes Area Democratic Socialists of America (BLA DSA) will hold a peace vigil outside of Camp Ripley on Sunday\, September 17.\nThe vigil is scheduled to last from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.\, the time Camp Ripley hosts Open House Day. Vigil participants can join all or part of the peace vigil.\nSigns\, banners\, and flags are available for vigil participants or vigil participants can bring signs to the vigil.\n\nCamp Ripley is located at 15000 Highway 115\, north of Little Falls. Vigil participants may park along the right-of-way.\n\nThe vigil seeks to increase public awareness of the devastation drone warfare causes by protesting against Camp Ripley’s drone pilot training program. Camp Ripley does not fly drones overseas\, but the training it provides enables pilots to use killer drones.)\n\nThe vigil will demand the termination of drone warfare\, the immediate withdrawal of all U.S. forces from the Middle East\, and a complete end to U.S. support for Saudi Arabia’s brutal war on Yemen.\n\nThe vigil supports a ceasefire and a peace settlement between Russia and Ukraine to end the Ukraine War. The vigil opposes the U.S. arming\, funding\, and training the Ukrainian military as these actions prolong the Ukraine War and risk a catastrophic war between the U.S. and Russia. The vigil calls on the U.S. to support every diplomatic effort to end the Ukraine War.\n\nThe vigil opposes the U.S. sanctions regime and regime change operations. The vigil supports the U.S. peacefully resolving disputes with other nations through diplomacy based on international law\, the right to self-determination\, and respect for national sovereignty.\n\nThe vigil will be in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. The vigil supports the Black Lives Matter movement’s demand to demilitarize the police force. (Camp Ripley is a major trainer of state and local police forces.)\n\nThe vigil’s pro-peace message will counter the pro-war propaganda Camp Ripley spreads at Open House Day\, the biannual event when Camp Ripley invites the public to visit the base.\n\nEveryone is welcome to join the Camp Ripley peace vigil. SUMMARY:September Cuba Car Caravan
DESCRIPTION:September Cuba Car Caravan\n\nEnd the U.S. Blockade of Cuba! (Poner fin al bloqueo estadounidense de Cuba)\nTake Cuba off the U.S. State Sponsors of Terrorism! (Sacar a Cuba de la lista de Estados Patrocinadores del Terrorismo de EE.UU)\n\n\nSunday\, September 24\, 2023\, Gather at 1:00 pm\nGriggs-Midway Building in St. Paul\, MN1821 University Ave W\, St Paul\, MN 55104(gather in the parking lot)\nCar caravan details:\n1:00 pm: Line up and add signs and flags to cars at Griggs-Midway. Signs and car flags will be available or bring your own. Caravan sponsors will make brief remarks.1:30 pm (sharp): Caravan begins – Drive on University Avenue to the State Capital and back then return to Griggs-Midway.\n\nDuring the caravan join us on ZOOM! See QR code.\n2:30: Brief closing rally at Griggs-Midway Building parking lot.Contact 612-437-0222 for more information or if you’re joining late.We join the nationwide monthly caravans first organized by Miami-based Puentes de Amor (Bridges of Love) to show our love  for Cuba. \nThis month we’re focusing on the continuation of Cuba on the list of nations that the U.S. designates as “terrorist” and the recent FBI questioning when people visit Cuba. \n \nCome to hear speakers that have experienced FBI questioning and/or FBI raids. We need to stand up and speak out against any form of U.S. government repression against the people of Cuba and their supporters.\nMore than 10\,000 people and 100 progressive advocacy groups have signed an open letter urging President Joe Biden to end the Trump administration’s terrorism designation for Cuba and to reinstate Obama-era policy for the island. We are still organizing to end the US’ 60+year Blockade on Cuba:The international outcry against the U.S. intentional starvation blockade of Cuba is growing. These actions powerfully refute the claims  by anti-Cuba Senators Marco Rubio\, Robert Menendez and Ted Cruz. Now in their third year\, the public bike and car caravans that started in Miami\, and led by Cuban-Americans\, have broken up that myth.\n \n—————————–\nÚnase a SCOTA\, el Comité Cuba de Minnesota y otros en nuestra caravana mensual contra el bloqueo estadounidense a Cuba.
