SUMMARY:17th Annual Walk Against Weapons of War
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, June 1\, 2024\, 10:30 am\, Langford Park\, St Paul\, MN \nRain or shine! Walking for Peace and Justice! \nThis is the 17th year of the Walk Against Weapons of War. This walk was initially started in 2008 to protest weapons producer Alliant Techsystems\, Inc. (ATK). This year our walk takes us past another weapons maker\, ForwardEdge ASIC (application specific integrated circuits)\, a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin Corporation. With record profits (net sales of $67.6 Billion in 2023)\, Lockheed Martin is a glowing example of the health of our nation’s war machine. Their F-35 fighter jets\, sent to Israel\, are being used to indiscriminately bomb Palestinian citizens\, killing tens of thousands and displacing 90% of the population of Gaza\, in violation of international law. Lockheed Martin’s nuclear weapons production and maintenance adds to the clear and present danger of nuclear holocaust. The world-wide use of all weapons increases greenhouse gasses\, distributes long-lasting toxins and destroys environmental ecosystems. \nWAMM has repeatedly called for the U.S. to STOP sending aid and weapons to Israel. Walk with us to alert the public and let the weapons makers see that their war profiteering is deadly to the citizens of the world and unwelcome in our neighborhood! \nNEW LOCATION: \nLangford Park\, St. Paul\, MN \n10:30 AM: Volunteer/Walker Check-In \n11:00 AM: Walk begins to Lockheed Martin (less than 1 mile) \nShort rally and return to Langford Park for a short closing ceremony. \nLangford Park is located South of Como Ave\, North of Energy Park Drive\, West of Raymond Ave. \nLook for the WAMM Flags and banners! \nClosest Bus Route: 3 or 87

SUMMARY:Vigil to End War
DESCRIPTION:The Vigil to End War is sponsored by the WAMM End War Committee (EWC). \nThe EWC is dedicated to ending U.S. involvement in war\, the threats of war\, and the production\, sale and use of the weapons of war. \nPlease wear a mask and maintain social distance! \nEvery Wednesday at the the Lake Street/Marshall Avenue Bridge \n4:00 pm – 5:00 pm (After April 3\, 2024 – 5:00-6:00 PM) \nSigns provided or bring your own. Check the WAMM calendar and Facebook events pages for special themes for the day! \nSponsored by the End War Committee \nIn 1999\, WAMM’s End War Committee partnered with other local activist groups to initiate a weekly vigil on the Lake Street and Marshal Avenue bridge in St.Paul. Originally in response to the U.S. and NATO bombings in Yugoslavia\, the vigil has continued weekly with different U.S. sanctions\, interventions\, and wars to protest. Every Wednesday for over 20 years—rain\, shine or below zero temps—activists in the Twin Cities have gathered to stand in solidarity with all those affected by U.S. militarism and to call for peace.

SUMMARY:Bombies Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, June 10\, 2024\, 7:00 pm\, 4200 Cedar Ave S \nWAMM SECOND MONDAY MOVIE PRESENTS…BOMBIES \nBetween 1964 and 1973 the United States conducted a secret air war\, dropping over 2 million tons of bombs and making tiny Laos the most heavily bombed country in history. Millions of these “cluster bombs” did not explode when dropped\, leaving the country massively contaminated… Bombies examines the problem of unexploded cluster bombs through the personal experiences of Laotians and foreigners and argues for their elimination as weapons of war. Unfortunately\, they are still a part of the US arsenal. \nCarol Masters\, author of You Can’t Do That: Marv Davidov\, Non-violent Revolutionary\, will start off the event with an excerpt from her book. Davidov (also featured in the film) was a well-respected anti-war activist who helped lead the struggle against Honeywell Corp. in the Twin Cities\, which manufactured cluster bombs locally for many years. \n2001 I Canada I 57 minutes \nProducer/Director Jack Silberman

No Occupation! \nThe U.S. is financing and orchestrating a multinational military occupation of Haiti\, that will be led by 1000 special forces from Kenya\, with additional forces from numerous countries in Africa and the Caribbean. These kind of foreign occupations and coups against progressive governments like those against Lavalas leader Jean-Bertrand Aristide\, deny self-determination to the people of Haiti\, and have led to the violent chaos in Haiti today.
