SUMMARY:National Day of Action for Higher Ed! Palestinian Prisoner's Day
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, April 17\, 2025 \nFood Drive: 10:30am – 2:30pm — 1721 University Ave SE \nWatch Party: 4-6pm — 130 Murphy Hall \nRally: 7pm — Northrop Mall \nDie-in & Candlelight vigil: 8:15pm \nJoin UMN Educators for Justice in Palestine\, UMN Divest Coalition organizations\, MN Free Palestine Coalition organizations\, and several community organizations on the National Day of Action for Higher Ed to stand up for Palestinian liberation\, immigrant rights\, prison abolition\, and academic freedom. April 17 is also the Palestinian Prisoners’ Day. We join other academic workers\, students\, union members\, and activists within multiple higher education associations and unions\, trade unions\, and others across the U.S. for a coordinated national direct action in protest of the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the escalating repression at home. We believe that the liberal notion of academic freedom divorced from Palestine speech is not freedom! We stand against the neoliberal and colonial logic of higher ed that represses speech and academic freedom in the US and that enables genocide\, carceral tactics\, starvation\, and the long-running destruction of education and historical memory in Gaza and throughout Palestine. Free Palestine! Hands Off Our Students! Dismantle ICE! Stop Suppressing Palestine Speech! Endorsed by WAMM

SUMMARY:MEPN April Forum: What Now for Our Movement?
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, April 19\, 2025\, 10AM-11:30AM\, Zoom Webinar\, click here to register\n\n\n\nPart 1: Gaza\, Trump II\, and the great unmasking –\nan inflection point for the movement\nAs the genocidal intent of Israel’s settler colonial project has become inescapably clear\, strategies informed by the liberal Zionist desire to rescue or reform the Zionist project have been replaced by a focus on ending the genocide and to challenging the very foundations of the Zionist project. The re-election of Donald Trump portends an escalation of Israel’s project of ethnic cleansing and colonization. The ceasefire agreement for Gaza is crashing on the rocks of the realization that this “agreement” is simply a further step in putting an end to Palestinian national aspirations. Severely increased violence in the West Bank\, both structural and overt\, provides further evidence of the duplicity of any talk of Palestinian statehood or sovereignty. Indeed\, we may be approaching the end of what Rashid Khalidi has termed the “One Hundred Years’ War on Palestine.” \nWhat does this mean for our movement? Is it the time for a reset? In this forum we will take stock of the movement for Palestine in the United States and globally. What are the achievements that can be built on and what are the challenges of the present moment? Ample time will be given to sharing and discussion\, which will set the stage for Part 2 (Saturday\, May 17)\, which will consider the key roles played by the ascendancy of Christian nationalism and the weaponization of antisemitism.  Register now for this April 19 Zoom forum.\n\nAbout the Speaker: \nDr. Mark Braverman is Jewish American with deep family roots in the Holy Land. Raised in a traditional Jewish family\, he was schooled in the potent combination of rabbinic Judaism and political Zionism that continues to dominate contemporary Jewish identity\, an identity that for Mark was transformed by his encounter with the Palestinian people. He is the Executive Director of Kairos USA\, a member organization of the Kairos for Justice Coalition\, a global network formed in response to the Palestinian call. Mark has lectured and trained internationally and is the author of two books\, Fatal Embrace: Christians\, Jews\, and the Search for Peace in the Holy Land and A Wall in Jerusalem: Hope\, Healing\, and the Struggle for Peace and articles and book chapters\, including the 2022 “Theology in the Shadow of the Holocaust: Revisiting Bonhoeffer and the Jews.”\n\nContact mepn@mepn.org with questions. \n  \nOrganized by Middle East Peace Now\, endorsed by WAMM Middle East Committee

SUMMARY:Vigil to End War
DESCRIPTION:The Vigil to End War is sponsored by the WAMM End War Committee (EWC). \nThe EWC is dedicated to ending U.S. involvement in war\, the threats of war\, and the production\, sale and use of the weapons of war. \nEvery Wednesday at the the Lake Street/Marshall Avenue Bridge \n4:00 pm – 5:00 pm  \nSigns provided or bring your own. Check the WAMM calendar and Facebook events pages for special themes for the day! \nSponsored by the End War Committee \nIn 1999\, WAMM’s End War Committee partnered with other local activist groups to initiate a weekly vigil on the Lake Street and Marshal Avenue bridge in St.Paul. Originally in response to the U.S. and NATO bombings in Yugoslavia\, the vigil has continued weekly with different U.S. sanctions\, interventions\, and wars to protest. Every Wednesday for over 20 years—rain\, shine or below zero temps—activists in the Twin Cities have gathered to stand in solidarity with all those affected by U.S. militarism and to call for peace.
