SUMMARY:Al Nakba March
DESCRIPTION:Al Nakba March\nSaturday\, May 20\, 2023 at 2 pm\nBryant Square Park\, 3101 Bryant Ave S\, Minneapolis 55408 \nFor Palestinians\, May 15 marks Al-Nakba\, Arabic for ‘the catastrophe’. During the 1948 war\, at least 750\,000 Palestinians were ruthlessly attacked\, massacred\, and driven from their homes by Zionist terror groups\, and have never been allowed to return\, in violation of international law. 2023 marks 75 years of Israeli land theft\, occupation\, and apartheid.\n\nThe US has provided over $150 billion in aid to Israel since 1949. Our tax dollars are paying for the occupation of Palestine.\nWe are not talking about Al-Nakba as a historic event but one that is ongoing. We need to raise our voices and march to denounce the Israeli attacks on the Al-Aqsa Mosque – where worshipers were violently attacked with rubber-coated bullets\, tear gas\, and stun grenades during Ramadan – as well as the bombing attacks on Gaza and the ethnic cleansing of the West Bank and Jerusalem.\nJoin us for our annual Al-Nakba protest to demand:\n-End U.S. aid to Israel\n-The state of MN must divest its over $800 million in state pension funds from Israeli companies and bonds\n-Speaking out for Palestine is not a crime!\n\n\nActivists from MN will attend the national protest in DC on May 13 so we will have our local action the next weekend on May 20.\nOrganized by the Anti-War Committee & American Muslims for Palestine – MN.\nEndorsements (so far):\nCouncil on American-Islamic Relations – MN\nJewish Voice for Peace – Twin Cities\nMiddle East Peace Now\nMN BDS Community\nMN Workers United\nNorthfielders for Justice in Palestine\nStudents for Justice in Palestine – UMN\nThe Red Nation\nTwin Cities Coalition for Justice 4 Jamar\nWomen Against Military Madness\n\n  \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Mandela: U.S. Nakbar Tour
DESCRIPTION:Mandela Nakbar Tour Comes to Minneapolis\nTuesday\, May 16\, 2023\, 7:00 PM\nCowles Auditorium\, Humphrey School of Public Affairs in Minneapolis\nU of M West Bank Campus\n301 S 19th Ave\, Minneapolis\, MN 55455 \n2023 marks the 75th anniversary of the Nakba (“Catastrophe” in English)\, when over 750\,000 Palestinians were banished from their homes upon the formation of the settler-colonial state of Israel. Today\, there are close to five million Palestinian refugees who continue to demand their Right to Return to the homes and lands from which they were exiled.\n\nTo commemorate the Nakba\, the U.S. Palestinian Community Network (USPCN) and the National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (NAARPR) have arranged a brief U.S. Nakba Day 75 tour\, to take place from May 15th – May 20th\, featuring Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela\, elected member of the South African National Assembly representing the African National Congress – and grandson of the late Nelson Mandela – as the tour’s keynote speaker.\n\nMr. Mandela\, also the tribal chief of the Mvezo Traditional Council\, holds a degree and a post-graduate diploma in Political Science and International Studies from Rhodes University. Unabashed in his support for the Palestinian people\, just like his grandfather\, he speaks regularly about Palestinian liberation at conferences\, rallies\, and other events across the world.\n\nMandela\, whose family fought against South African apartheid\, is coming to Minneapolis to speak out against Israeli apartheid and for the rights of Palestinians. The Anti-War Committee and the Twin Cities Coalition for Justice for Jamar are hosting this event to also draw attention to the cooperation between US police forces\, including the Minneapolis Police Force\, and the Israeli Defense Forces.\n\nInitiated by the Anti-War Committee and Twin Cities Coalition for Justice for Jamar. Co-sponsored by Council on American Islamic Relations\, Jewish Voice for Peace -TC\, MN BDS Community\, MN Immigrant Rights Action Committee\, Northfielders for Justice in Palestine\, Students for a Democratic Society @ the U of MN\, Veterans for Peace Chapter 27 and Women Against Military Madness.\n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Show Your Love for Venezuela!
DESCRIPTION:Show Your Love for Venezuela!\nFriday\, Feb 10th from 7-9 pm\n4200 Cedar Ave. S\, Minneapolis\n\nThe Anti-War Committee is sending 2 committee members on a delegation to Venezuela in March to learn about the effects of US sanctions first hand. Trump’s Muslim ban (which included Venezuela) made it difficult for Venezuelans to come here and US sanctions have made the situation very difficult for Venezuelans during a global pandemic. Sending folks from MN is an important act of solidarity and will bring back needed information! Help us send them to Venezuela on the upcoming Alliance for Global Justice delegation.\n\nThere will also be a silent auction so you can bid on a Valentines Day gift basket.\n\nDonations can be tax deductible and can be made out to the Anti-War Education Fund with Venezuela in the memo or made online.\n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Human Rights Day Protest
DESCRIPTION:International Human Rights Day! \nSaturday\, December 10th 2022 at 1:00 PM \n3101 S Bryant Ave\, Minneapolis 55408 \n1pm: Meet at Bryant Square Park with Uptown march to follow. \nThe U.S. uses the language of human rights to justify U.S. intervention in Ukraine and to impose sanctions on Iran\, Venezuela\, and Cuba.\n\nMeanwhile\, the U.S. government continuously refuses to act in support of the basic human rights to education\, healthcare\, housing\, and a live-able planet for our children here at home.\n\nAfter the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade\, people in the U.S. are also fighting for women’s and reproductive rights.\n\nLastly\, people of color are targeted by police and killed at an outrageous rate in their own communities.\n\nThis comes on top of longstanding U.S. wars and interventions\, which NEVER bring human rights. Instead\, they brutally subject the peoples of the world to occupation and instability while stealing their natural resources and suppressing their rights to self-determination.\n\nWe see it in Palestine\, where the U.S. encourages illegal annexations for Israeli settlers and funds the ongoing war on Palestinians.\n\nJoin with us to demand respect for human rights at home and abroad!\nInitiated by the Anti-War Committee. Co-sponsored by Women Against Military Madness.\n#InternationalHumanRightsDay\n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Defend Abortion: March for More Clinics!
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, July 2\, 2022\, 1:00 PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n200 SE Oak St in Minneapolis\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n8 clinics is not enough! With Minnesota’s new status as the Midwest’s sanctuary state for abortion\, we need more clinics to meet the needs of the people in our state and surrounding! \n\n\nIn 1975\, the University of Minnesota closed its only abortion clinic due to pressure from the state legislature and has not offered these services to the people of Minnesota since. Students for a Democratic Society calls on University administrators to stand with us in the fight for legal abortion and OPEN MORE CLINICS NOW! An abortion clinic at every University of Minnesota campus across the state would greatly increase the capacity of our state to meet the growing needs for these procedures and strengthen our status as a sanctuary state! On campus abortion access would also make reproductive care more accessible to students and staff! March with us to demand more clinics NOW!\n\nThis is a student-led action\, but we welcome the Twin Cities community to join us in the streets! We need more clinics\, more funding for existing clinics\, direct state funding to abortion funds\, an end to state funding of anti-abortion “crisis centers”\, and we need the Democrats to codify Roe now!\n\n\n	Related
