SUMMARY:Earth Day - From Little Earth to Palestine: Rally & March
DESCRIPTION:EARTH DAY RALLY AND MARCH\, 4/21: From Little Earth to Palestine! 📣🇵🇸 Fight back against environmental racism! Divest MN from apartheid Israel! Shut down Smith Foundry! No greenwashing genocide! More info below 👇 \n🗓️Sunday April 21st\n⏰1:00PM\n📍Smith Foundry (28th and Longfellow Ave\, MPLS) \nHOW ISRAEL USES GREENWASHING: \nGreenwashing: the act of framing one’s actions or policies as environmentally friendly — “green” — as a means of concealing some other harm. \nGreenwashing is a tactic used by settler colonies that attempts to deceivingly characterize the genocidal and intrinsically capitalistic annexations of land by occupation forces as “environmentally progressive”. \nIsrael’s exploitation of Palestinian land and resources has locked Palestine into a captive market\, effectively creating an economic relationship rooted in manufactured dependence and cyclical debt. \nThis is especially prevalent in the energy sector in Palestine where Gazans have two sources of electricity: the frequently bombed Gaza Power Plant which depends on fuel—a resource that Israel has substantially restricted access to due to its “dual purpose” categorization—and the Israel Electric Corporation (IEC). \nIsraeli green energy corporations like SolarEdge build solar fields on stolen and illegally occupied Palestinian land to sell to the IEC. Palestinians are forced to depend on Israel for access to their own resources and the global West is deceived into believing that renewable energy sources are being developed from a place of ethical benevolence. \nThe systemic dispossession and exploitation of Palestinian land with resources deemed profitable for the occupation’s endeavors contributes to the de-development of Palestine—worsening conditions for Palestinians and making it increasingly difficult for Palestinians to achieve sovereignty under Israel’s apartheid regime. \nInitiated by Climate Justice Committee and Anti-War Committee. Endorsed by the Free Palestine Coalition\, EPNI\, WAMM\, and others. \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Tell Walz to Shut Down Smith Foundry
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, April 11\, 2024\, 5:30 pm\, Eastcliff\, 176 N Mississippi River Blvd \, St Paul\, MN \nRally and Press Conference at the governor’s residence \nSmith has been polluting East Philips for decades. It’s blatant environmental racism: foundries would never be allowed in affluent white neighborhoods. Walz could put his weight behind shutting down Smith at any time through bills like HF 4231 + SF 4316 that would kill the grandfathered permits for polluters like Smith & St Paul Brass\, but he believes avoiding controversy in an election year is more important than the health of our communities. Tell Walz that he and the MN Pollution Control Agency need to do their jobs and SHUT DOWN SMITH FOUNDRY \nOrganized by Climate Justice Committee\, Sponsored by EMMAE \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Toxic Harm or Urban Farm?!
DESCRIPTION:Trick or Treat?! Toxic Harm or Urban Farm?!\nThursday\, October 27\, 5:00-6:30 pm\n\n316 Hennepin Ave E\, Minneapolis\, MN 55414-1016\, United States\n\n\nThe mayor of Minneapolis\, Jacob Frey and his administration are up to their usual “tricks”. Rather than providing the folks in East Phillips with clear and transparent processes on how the community will be protected from poisoning from arsenic and heavy vehicle emissions\, the mayor and his gang are trying to muddy the waters and obscure the harm that will be caused by the demolition of the RoofTop Depot.\nLet us send a clear and unambiguous message to the mayor and company\, a “treat” from East Phillips and their supporters\, there is a better alternative. Let us rally to make sure that the mayor knows that East Phillips demands….\nURBAN FARM! NOT TOXIC HARM!\nThe city plans to demolish the abandoned RoofTop Depot building sitting on heaps of untouched arsenic\, for which it has no stated remediation plan. After kicking up all of this arsenic\, the city wants to build a refueling station for its heavy equipment vehicles there. East Phillips is already one of the most polluted areas in Minnesota. An estimated 12% of its residents have asthma — explicitly because of the pollution in the area\, which is surrounded by heavily emitting plants & facilities on top of getting the exhaust from the traffic going down Hiawatha Ave. We can only imagine how much worse it will get with over 800 additional heavy equipment vehicles going in and out every day.\nThe community of East Phillips wants to take things into its own hands\, build an urban farm — this would include rehabilitating the building\, which does not need to be torn down in a costly and ecologically destructive move. The East Phillips Neighborhood Institute\, the Climate Justice Committee\, and many other community groups are coming together to fight this blatant environmental racism.\nURBAN FARM! NOT TOXIC HARM!\nSponsored by East Phillips Neighborhood Institute and Climate Justice Committee\n\n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Defend Abortion: March for More Clinics!
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, July 2\, 2022\, 1:00 PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n200 SE Oak St in Minneapolis\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n8 clinics is not enough! With Minnesota’s new status as the Midwest’s sanctuary state for abortion\, we need more clinics to meet the needs of the people in our state and surrounding! \n\n\nIn 1975\, the University of Minnesota closed its only abortion clinic due to pressure from the state legislature and has not offered these services to the people of Minnesota since. Students for a Democratic Society calls on University administrators to stand with us in the fight for legal abortion and OPEN MORE CLINICS NOW! An abortion clinic at every University of Minnesota campus across the state would greatly increase the capacity of our state to meet the growing needs for these procedures and strengthen our status as a sanctuary state! On campus abortion access would also make reproductive care more accessible to students and staff! March with us to demand more clinics NOW!\n\nThis is a student-led action\, but we welcome the Twin Cities community to join us in the streets! We need more clinics\, more funding for existing clinics\, direct state funding to abortion funds\, an end to state funding of anti-abortion “crisis centers”\, and we need the Democrats to codify Roe now!\n\n\n	Related
